Job Title:
Application Analyst

Job Purpose:
Support IT external and internal customers on laboratory, administrative, and desktop applications. Provide support, training and solutions on exiting or new software applications.
Investigate, test and recommend new software solutions for exiting or proposed processes.
Evaluate and implement new applications and support on-going effective utilization of applications.

Job Duties
1.Support Laboratory (LIMS) and Research/Technical Services applications.Evaluate on-going user requirements and identify methods to effectively utilize these applications.

2.Identify and document user requirements, and evaluate, select, and implement new applications as member of user/IT task force.

3.Develop training manuals/sessions and train users on new and enhanced applications.

4.Support administrative applications (finance, human resources, marketing, etc.).
Evaluate on-going user requirements and identify methods to effectively utilize these applications.

5.Work with users to determine appropriate database/inquiry tool to be utilized for reporting purposes.
Support application-based, system-based, and desktop-based integration and reporting tools.

6.Support desktop applications, including user interface, word processing, spreadsheets, database and application system integration tools.

7.Maintain up-to-date knowledge and awareness of food testing industry, information technology trends, and available laboratory and administrative application products and trends.

8.Communicate project/request status and issues to IT management, IT customers, and application software vendors.
Notify management of issues and recommended solutions to ensure projects are completed on-time, on-budget, and the customer is satisfied.

9.Assist IT operations personnel in day-to-day operations of computer systems.
10.Support corporate quality and improvement process (TQM).
11.Perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge & Skill
Broad knowledge of application design techniques and an understanding of database design and data retrieval concepts.
Working knowledge of major software package applications (i.e. LIMS, accounting), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Access), Crystal Reports, Basic programming, and Oracle database functions is required.
Ability to understand, evaluate, and document user work functions and requirements.
Ability to setup, configure and test data tables/functions within software applications.
Familiarity with project management and project implementation methodologies.
Ability to lead project teams.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

Job Complexity
Investigate software applications to determine the source and appropriate solution. Problems can occur when the system will not perform as expected or variations in the procedure need to be added.
Problems can occur more often in development of a project but less as adaptations are implemented and may be similar to those experienced in the past.
This position relies on their experience and information is available from standardized manuals and analysts to determine the best solution.


Decision Making or Recommendations
This position recommends actions based on the information obtained during trouble shooting of problems.
The decision to implement that recommendation is determined by the position’s supervisor (Manager Application Support).
Recommendations must maintain the analyst’s ability to follow the established procedures for the analysis.
Each problem must be investigated to determine the cause and the best solution.
Each project has more issues to be solved in the beginning, but progress and further adaptations result in less problems.

Accountability
Receives general direction from the Manager of Application Support.
The position is responsible for making sure that the system meets the needs of the user.
The position
must utilize appropriate information system methodologies, such as project management, system evaluation/selection, user training, and implementation and testing, and problem analysis and resolution.

Relationships
The position has regular contact with laboratory personnel to ensure that system is meeting specified needs of the user.
The position has regular contact with the Quality Assurance department to make sure that systems meet analysis demands.
Occasional contact with Clients is necessary to ensure access to their analysis data in a timely fashion.

Work Environment
The position works primarily in an administrative office with proper lighting and temperature control.
Manual dexterity is necessary to manipulate a keyboard.
Occasional the position may lift computer and related equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Overnight travel to laboratories and other locations may occur occasionally when working on special projects.
The position my experience occasional stress when working under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
