University cooperated together on “Metro & Wuhan University 2003 Summer Inter
nship Project”. During the two month internship, we were much impressed with
the motivation, spirits and attitudes of the interns. They also made very impr
essing reports of project outcomes to Metro and Wuhan University on Sep 13th,
2003. Two interns were invited to attend 2003 Metro China Strategy Conference
on Sep 23rd, 2003, on which they made wonderful presentations on behalf of the
internship team. At the end of the internship, we successfully employed 4 int
erns as management trainees. Now Metro & Wuhan University 2004 Summer Internsh
ip Project is coming. The details about the project are as follows.

1. Provide a real-life work experience for the students who can provide recomm

Job Scope
We have developed following topics for reference. The candidates are not restr
ained to study on these topics, and they can choose their interested topics du
ring internship like logistics, buying etc.
Project 1 How to Improve Staff Self Motivation?
Background
A motivated employee is enthusiastic, patient and considerate in front of cust
omers, which gives customers positive feeling, and in return positive impact t
o company image. This is especially important to service companies like Metro.
Therefore, we need to set up identification system to single out those who te
nd to be self motivated, and develop proper training program for current staff
to improve their self motivation. The candidates are expected to make workabl
e suggestions on employment and training system.
Proposal schedule
Choose specific positions and work as general employees to feel what pressure
and challenges employees are faced with in their daily work.

Identify the scope of self motivation
Period: 1 week
Identify the key issues that cause different levels of self motivation through
interviews, etc
Design workable plans with proposals for stores to improve

Project 2 How to Improve the effectiveness of telemarketing?
Background
Based on Metro’s sound customer data information Metro will utilize the custo
mer data to make phone call to achieve its specific targets, e.g., encourage n
on buying customer to purchase in Metro or share the customers with product in
formation before the festivals. We expect the candidates to study on whether t
elemarketing is effective when persuading customers to buy in Metro before fes
tivals, to what segmentation telemarketing is most effective, how to develop a
set of workable forms to evaluate the effectiveness of telemarketing, and how
to optimize the callers’ workflow to improve the effectiveness of telemarket
ing.

Participate into current telemarketing activity to understand more of its purp
ose and get familiar with existed evaluation system

Identify key factors that promote active customers into buying customers throu
gh telemarketing, e.g. customers’ concerns, caller’s skills, etc

Examine the key factors with store and focus the discussion on key factors

Background
Import articles can help to better satisfy the needs of Metro’s professional
customers, which distinguish Metro from its competitors to a great extent. The
candidates can analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Metro’s import ar
ticles, who are our target customers, and how we can provide better service to
them. We hope the candidates can narrow their research on specific articles a
nd help design workable program to improve import article sales.
Proposal schedule
Know more of import articles from various perspectives, e.g. ordering, deliver
y, etc
Choose specific articles as study objects
Period: 1 week
Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Metro’s import articles compared
with its competitors
Redefine the target customers of import articles
Period: 1 week
Visit target customers and identify their key concerns
Period: 2 weeks
Work out action plan aligned with specific concerns; easy to execute
Period: 1 week
Evaluate the effectiveness of the action plan by implementing the action plan
after approval and make adjustment to optimize the plan

Qualifications
1. Students who will graduate in 2005 from Business School, Wuhan University.
Postgraduates and MBA are preferred but not limited
2. Skillful at listening, speaking, reading and writing English. Passed CET-6
is preferred, but not limited
3. No limits on gender, age or major
4. Students whose hometowns are located in Chongqing, Chengdu,Changsha and Na
nchang are warmly invited but not limited to submit their resumes /application
