For the past 15 years my professional home has been with McKinsey & Company, and for the last 8 years my family home has been in Beijing. In that time, I came to know many outstanding people like you at clients, with business partners, in government, with the media, and in the community. I wanted to inform you that my time with McKinsey in Beijing will end in late May 2003.
I have accepted a “pre hono(志愿服务)” position based in Taipei with my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Monnons)(摩门教). From July 1,2003 to July 1, 2006 I will serve full-time as a “mission president” directing the work of 200 volunteer missionaries in northern Taiwan. My religion is a critical priority in my life that has led me to accept this calling and, with some sadness, leave McKinsey.
My fellow partners at McKinsey remain committed to serving leading companies in China. Gordon Orr(欧高敦), who opened our Beijing office with me, continues to lead our Greater China practice. Our Beijing office will proceed under the capable leadership of Yibing Wu(吴亦兵) who replaced me as general manager six months ago. I urge you to reach out to Gordon, Yibing, and the other McKinsey partners you know.
For further contact, my mail address will change to Perkinschina@yahoo.com. Mail can be sent to me care of McKinsey Beijing, or to my permanent address:
